What Is a Title I School? Understanding Its Purpose, Funding, and Impact
Title I was established in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” The goal was to close the educational achievement gaps between students from low-income backgrounds and their more affluent peers. Over time, Title I has undergone several reauthorizations and amendments, including the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015.
